Total convenience with AMX
System
As part of a major high-end refurb project, we designed and installed a complete AMX audio/video and home automation system,
working alongside the project management company at the 1st fix stage to prepare and install the wiring infrastructure. We also worked with the interior designers during the course of the project to ensure all colours and finishes matched. Design and programming of the system, as with all our projects, was done completely in-house.
The clients' brief was fairly simple:
- Satellite TV, and media server to provide a complete catalog of the home's DVDs and CDs, distributed to TV rooms
- Background music in refurb and new areas
- Dedicated home cinema room with aesthetics and audio/video quality both top priorities
- Integrated control of fluorescent lighting in remodelled areas
When we approached the design for this project, we took a holistic approach paying attention to the clients' key criteria of high quality products, picture and sound quality, and aesthetics that would be appropriate for this level of refurbishment - a large proportion of the ground floor being completely rebuilt including an ultra-modern Mobalpa kitchen.
The end result was a tremendous success, with the seamless blending of technology into the fabric of the home. For the home cinema, we worked with the onsite contractors to channel brickwork to our exact dimensions ready for discreet in-wall speakers. A ceiling-mounted projector and luxury black-velvet framed screen, together with the high-specification audio system, create a cinema room that really comes alive when the movie starts.
In kitchen and dining areas, high quality ceiling speakers were installed into the art-deco ceiling, along with wall-mounting of the clients' existing plasma TV in the optimum viewing location.
All equipment was installed in the basement area, with dedicated equipment racks keeping all the electronics safe and secure and completely out of sight.
The prime choice for controlling the home and in keeping with the clients' aspirations for this project, was AMX. The stunning new AMX 5.2" wireless touchpanel was chosen with integral in-wall docking station in the kitchen area, which charges the touchpanel when connected and powers its release with a quick button press. The built-in password facility also keeps the touchpanel secure from small fingers! An additional AMX handheld remote with charging base gives extra flexiblity allowing any room to be controlled from either touchpanel or remote handset.
The icing on the cake for the client was complete integrated control of lighting in different areas. As well as on/off and dimming control, exact light levels can be set on the touchpanel, together with pre-programmed scenes with a single touch. The client can also save their own scenes with their preferred lighting levels, and recall them, all directly from the touchpanel. For a real cinema experience, the system was programmed to automatically dim the lights down when playing a movie, and to dim up softly when pausing.
